For many years, Kent tourism did not have the benefit of substantial national and regional government funding and its potential as The Garden of England was slipping.
Visit Kent was established in 2002 to establish a strong and recognisable identity for the county and attract funding, in partnership with Kent County Council, Medway Council, the District and Borough Councils, and leading tourism businesses.
Since its inception, Visit Kent has firmly established Kent as a place of rich heritage, iconic coastline, exciting cities and towns with vibrant busy high streets, quality local produce and appealing culture through innovative marketing campaigns.
The organisation has secured more than £25 million of UK and European funding, and Kent’s visitor economy is now worth £4.1 billion, welcoming 66.5 million visitors a year and supporting over 80,000 jobs.
